Recorded as part of research in musical translation at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, the latest solo bass album from Tom Blancarte is a musical love letter to one of the giants of free improvisation, Evan Parker.

Musical translation is an emerging field of research where the worlds of musicological analysis and creative expressivity meet... a kind of sonic Jurassic Park. Here, Blancarte uses the memes of Evan Parker's solo soprano saxophone music to build a new and exciting polyphony language for the upright bass.

The track titles all reference various bridges or guides between spiritual worlds. The album title, Sirat, comes from Frank Herbert's Dune series, where life is described as a journey across the Sirat, with "Paradise on my Right, Hell on my Left, and the Angel of Death Behind".
